The 4th Transform Africa Summit – the Smart Africa flagship event – took place in Kigali, Rwanda, from 8 – 9 May 2018.

Under the theme “Accelerating Africa’s Single Digital Market”, the Summit has attracted over 4,000 participants, including Heads of State and Government, First Ladies, UN Broadband Commissioners, Ministers, Public & Private Sector, International Organisations, Industry Leaders, Investors, Entrepreneurs, Young Innovators, Civil Society and Academia.

In addition to the Smart Africa Leaders Summit, the Smart Africa Women’s Summit and interactive plenaries, the summit featured subject specific streams tackling current ICT topics. Delegates were able to attend insightful & engaging streams including the Blockchain Hub, the Digital Health Hub, the 4th Industrial Revolution Hub as well as several customized sessions by partners.

This year’s summit also featured a signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between World Startup Festival ™ and Smart Africa to develop 100 African digital entrepreneurs within 5 years.  The partnership agreement includes training African startup entrepreneurs in WSFD’Academy Accelerator Bootcamps to prepare them for seed funding and international business collaboration in different parts of the world, the hosting of the annual World Startup Festival in Africa in 2019, and the creation of a WSF Smart Africa Press Club, inviting respected African media agencies to help elevate the news of African businesses into and beyond Africa, through partnerships with international media houses.
